What kind of sitemap should I include on my website?
Article The Sitemap test in Google Goggles currently checks for a Google Sitemap. The file should be named sitemap.xml and be found in your domain's web root directory. For example, if your website is http://www.mysite.com then the Google sitemap should be located at http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml

Note that Goggles only works with uncompressed Google Sitemaps at this time -- not compressed with gz.

Here's a free online Google Sitemap generator
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
Be sure to choose the plain sitemap.xml file (not sitemap.xml.gz)

Once you have created your Google sitemap xml file, go to your Google Webmaster account (or create one - it's free)
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Then add your site and sitemap in your G. Webmaster account.

By the way, your regular HTML sitemap is a good thing to have too. And is a very user-friendly feature.
But from a search engine standpoint, having a Google Sitemap (sitemap.xml) will give you much better results.
Your pages will get indexed faster as well.
